The promotion and controversy surrounding this novel catapulted Capote to fame. "Other Voices, Other Rooms" made "The New York Times" bestseller list and stayed there for nine weeks, selling more than 26,000 copies. Decades later, writing in "The Dogs Bark" (1973), he commented: ![]() The novel is a semi-autobiographical refraction of Capote's Alabama childhood. Capote described this symbolic tale as "a poetic explosion in highly suppressed emotion". With an advance of $1,500, Capote returned to Monroeville and began "Other Voices, Other Rooms", continuing to work on the manuscript in New Orleans, Saratoga Springs, New York, and North Carolina, eventually completing it in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The critical success of one of his short stories, "Miriam" (1945), attracted the attention of the publisher Bennett Cerf, resulting in a contract with Random House to write a novel. The film will mark Johansson's directorial debut. Rafael Cimino have been enlisted to craft the screenplay. The film rights to Summer Crossing were purchased by actress Scarlett Johansson and a cinematic version is in the works. However, Joseph was convicted of embezzlement and shortly afterwards, when his income crashed, the family was forced to leave Park Avenue. In 1933, he moved to New York City to live with his mother and her second husband, Joseph Capote, a Cuban-born textile broker, who adopted him as his stepson and renamed him Truman GarcĂa Capote. At least 20 films and television dramas have been produced of Capote novels, stories, and plays. Truman Garcia Capote ( born Truman Streckfus Persons, Septem– August 25, 1984) was an American novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and actor, many of whose short stories, novels, plays, and nonfiction are recognized as literary classics, including the novella "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1958) and the true crime novel "In Cold Blood" (1966), which he labeled a "nonfiction novel".
